Actually, the government and by that I mean the current administration is all that stands between a corporate monarchy taking over this country. Take the recent recall of eggs because of the salmonella scare; in the past few months measures were enacted by the Obama administration that gave the government agency that handles food safety in the FDA some teeth for just such an emergency. The agency involved was able to track down the source of the infection and coerce the two huge dollar corporations that owned the egg farms to recall the tainted eggs and correct the source of infection. Over a half a billion eggs were recalled!

During the former Republican administration these measures were set aside indefinitely which meant that the tainted eggs would still be out there with no investigation to even determine that the eggs were the source of infection. So if the two monster corporations had their way they would not have done anything about this problem and thousands more Americans would have fallen ill and many might have died.

Little credit is given to the government in the press for this service on our behalf. And yet we can only expect more bottom-line profitability actions on the part of large corporations as they take over more and more of the government's policy making.
