: : Did you read about the 7 year old kid whos lemonade stand was shut down by Jon Kawaguchi, the environmental health supervisor for the Multnomah county health department?

: Sam, you are so daring!!!

: Below you will find the URL for one of the articles regarding the situation. The group who supported tout that they are anarchists so I have included one of the simplest and clearest definitions of what anarchism is;
: One definition of anarchism - a political theory favoring the abolition of governments – according to wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn.

: We have a few in town who may align their political views with anarchism. I do not but I will always respect those who care enough to share what they honestly believe, most especially one each Sam on the Bandon by the Sea BBS.

: I believe in moderate government regulatory intervention where we can grow as a nation and mankind best. I believe we can’t grow without struggle and adventure. I believe government’s main purpose is to provide an environment where educated risk is rewarded but self centered greed is punished.

: I do not believe a child can survive self initiated risk without the regulating protection of loving, mature, experienced and educated adults. I do not believe adults can physically or mentally survive the chaos of totally unregulated highways, totally unregulated actions of self centered greed of others within the responsibility of our nation, or especially the total freedom for nationwide product producers to increase profits through the use of poisonous ingredients (just a couple of examples such as pesticides and lead).

: That is the simplest way I can explain how I see the productive role of government in my life.

: I do not believe government should intervene in efforts to enter into the adventure of doing business for either child or adult citizens. We should always lean in the direction of “buyer beware” rather than it’s the responsibility of the government to provide “buyer be totally safe”. What was not mentioned in the article was the $120 temporary restaurant license also included some form of cleanliness check such as being temporarily attached to a regularly inspected and responsible fully licensed food service. This licensing activity is what I put under a government mentality of “buyer be totally safe” and I believe that is wrong.

: We must be as free and independent to try new things as can be provided by our self governing community and the power of our free choice to consume. I am and have been truly upset at child labor laws making it so that no child can really begin to work until they are fifteen. I was freely allowed to attempt to be a productive almond picker at eight years old. I made a dollar an hour and really didn’t produce that much until I had two or three years experience under my belt but was allowed to learn through nurtured experience. I definitely do not believe in forced slave labor of any person of any age. I cannot ever abide by subjugation of any human being for the sole profit of any other human being: that I want my government to enforce regulation of to keep from happening because families and local communities seem unable to keep it from happening, otherwise.

: Lemonade stands, taking time off from schools to bring in the harvest, paper routes, baby sitting, lawn mowing, doing the neighbor’s dishes, making the neighbor’s beds, cleaning the neighbor’s house and a whole bunch of potential childhood business ventures should be monitored for safety by the family and immediate community and regulated by the consumer and no intervention by the government. Start up ventures by responsible adults should never be taxed or licensed out of possibility by the government only to be regulated by the power of consumer.

: There is much more I can, as usual, share as to how I see things would work so much better but too many have already not read down this far. Suffice it to say that the best churros I have ever had was from deep in Mexico coming from fifty gallon barrels of super hot fat that would never have passed our licensed safety standards. I would gladly go back and purchase more churros under the only standard of “buyer beware”.

Dear Herm,
I don't understand why you think many people don't read all of what you have to say>I may be wrong but I always read every word of every post.A little known fact to many of you newer posters is, I posted on the BBS many times years ago and took a break when things got out of hand politicaly.Just about a year before the Obama dream team took over.I'm a democrat but not a Obama follower.
But I have been reading.
It just seems to me that commond sense has gone out the window.Yes I want regulations on my highways and such. But to bring down a kid trying to learn, earn and just have a little fun is discusting to me.
Having a permit does nothing for having clean sanitation condition and healthy food products. It was water and kool-aid(maybe to many kool-aid drinkers up there).
Having a license does not mean anything when the inspector ain't looking. My God people I drank water out of a garden hose, ate dirt, worms and never washed my hands and did all the stupid things kids did and still do.
The guy who stood up for the kid, regardless of why,in my opinion did what I would have done.To hell with what some g.man with a clipboard said.
I believe if this kid was a Mexican kid selling oranges and clipboardman came around and said something all hell would have been unleashed.
The ACLU,Jesse Jackson,Rev.Al and Soto Mayor would be doing the nasty baby dance all over Portland.
God Lord, lighten up on the kids.Buy the lemonade and turn the corner and dump it out if you don't trust a kid.But help the kid out for god sakes.
